Tacos & Twang!

Tacos & Twang!
Our favorite Twang products

Broad recently came across something we’ve never heard of while on Facebook: beer salt. She did a little research, reported on her discoveries, and we decided we had to try it. We came across this company Twang and contacted them about trying to get our hands on some of their products. They graciously sent us a huge package of everything for us to try just in time for Broad’s taco birthday party!

Broad only wanted to do one thing for her birthday, eat tacos. So we contacted our closest friends and asked them to come over for a taco party. Ben spent Friday and Saturday preparing the food while Broad researched all of the Twang products we received so we could share them with everyone.

Beer Salt
We asked everyone to bring over different Mexican beers so we could share and do a little taste test. We were excited because everyone would also be able to try the beer salt from Twang. What’s beer salt? Twang was inspired by the Latino tradition of adding citrus and salt to beer. They packaged it in a very convenient pocket-sized bottle so you can throw it in your bag, pocket or purse and take it with you everywhere. You can use it in whatever beer or drink you want. Twang suggests using it on Mexican beers, domestics or even Belgian-Style wheat ales. It’s very easy to use. You put it on top of the bottle or can (lick, drink and repeat) and enjoy.

They have four flavors: michelada, hot lime, lemon lime and lime. They are all delicious but our favorites were michelada and hot lime. We tried them in all of the Mexican beers and all were awesome. Broad will definitely be carrying this around her bag. We might try it in some light domestic beer but we can’t really imagine using it in any craft beer except maybe some lighter summer fare.

Taco Fixins’

Clamato Salt
Of course Broad had to make michelada mix for the party. She’s perfected making micheladas and was hesitant to add anything new or different to it. But, Twang sent us clamato salt and we were intrigued. The salt is a blend of chili, tomato, celery and lime; perfect for micheladas, cheladas, Bloody Marys, red beer, etc.  We used it to rim the glass for micheladas and we also put it in the mix. We also tried some in our Mexican beer and it was delicious. This one was definitely a keeper.

ZAS!
Twang doesn’t just make salts for your drink they also created Zas! to be used for your food. Think meats, veggies, fruits, snacks etc. It comes in four flavors: Chili Lime, Hatch Chile, Mango Chile and Tamarind. Our favorite is the Hatch Chile. We used it in the barbacoa we made for the party. Broad could eat it straight from the bottle it’s so good. We plan on using these spices for avocados, nuts, meats, just about everything! Pro tip: sprinkle that shit on avocado toast.

Cafe Zuca
We kind of thought Twang was only savory items but we were wrong. They have a product called Cafe Zuca which is flavored sugar toppings. They have chocolate, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon and hazelnut. We normally don’t add sugar to our coffee but we tried the chocolate and caramel ones in our pre-party coffees and they were delicious, just enough flavor and not too much sweetness.

Twang-A-Rita
You can’t have a taco party without margaritas! Beard made some of our favorite flavor margs: cucumber, red bell pepper and he also made a batch of palomas, one of our favorite cocktails. For these, we used Twang-A-Rita‘s rimming salt. Our favorites were the Paloma Love (obviously perfect for the palomas), Sunrise Spice (chili pepper/lime flavor) and the Golden Roar (their take on top shelf margarita, a smooth citrus flavor). Other flavors include: Citrusplash, Unwind Lime, Sangrita and Nectarberry.

Twangerz
Twangerz is a tasty flavored salt blend that can be used as a snack topping or honestly, you can eat it by itself if you want. They sent us the Sriracha Salt to try (it’s like they knew us). It is so tasty and it will be perfect for popcorn. We tried it with our guac and salsa and chips and it added a nice little kick. The other flavors they have include: lemon lime, lime, chili lime, pickle and mango chili. We have to get our hands on the pickle flavor!

We can’t thank Twang enough for making Broad’s taco party so great. We were able to share all these amazing products with our friends and even give them a swag bag to take home. Our favorite products were the beer salt and ZAS! We will definitely be incorporating these fun products in our food and drink, and suggest you do the same.

Thank you so much Twang!
