Day 11: Platform Beer Co. Esther Belgian Christmas Ale

DSC_0346

Platform Beer Co. does not have beer descriptions on their website. Beer menu’s website describes this beer as a “Belgian style Christmas Ale with notes of cherry and plums, with a complex malty backbone.”

REFLECTIONS

Beard & Broad
Beard: I really want to try this side by side with Pimp My Sleigh (check out our previous review of that beer you Grinches!) because I feel they’re very similar, but I think Esther may have a thinner body. The esters also come out a bit more in PMS (terrible abbreviation) I feel. That being said, I do think that I could drink more of Esther over time. The chocolate malt is a nice touch also, but I honestly didn’t pick it up until Broad mentioned it. All in all, another great Belgian Christmas beer from Cleveland. Hope this trend continues.

Broad: Initially it smells boozy but delicious. There are a lot of flavors dancing around in this beer. It basically tastes like a yummy, malty, chocolate Belgian ale. I would love to try this side by side with the Pimp My Sleigh because they are similar and wonderful.  I wouldn’t classify it as a holiday beer but maybe as a winter ale. I would drink this on a chilly winter night.

Adam & Alex
Adam: Platform Esther is just delicious. It’s a 9.5% Belgian that doesn’t taste like it at all. It’s caramely and filled with honey. It’s not heavy and I love it.

Alex: I love this. Its Belgian deliciousness and doesn’t taste as strong as it actually is. I would drink it on the regular.

Mez & Sam
Mez: Esther is the best beer so far. Full flavored with great balance, you don’t feel the high abv until you’re a few deep. This is the first beer so far that if I could, I would freeze it, ice skate on it, and wait until spring to melt it and drink it!

Sam: Esther is ok. I wish it was more holiday spice tasting.
