Heck’s Cafe

Heck’s Cafe
The Spread!

When thinking about where to get good burgers in Cleveland, the first place that comes to mind for most is Heck’s Cafe. For us, that’s all Heck’s really was. Then we were invited to try more of their menu and our opinions changed. Spoiler alert: Heck’s is way more than just delicious burgers!

Heck’s menu is seasonal and their items are made from locally sourced ingredients from locally owned businesses. They’ve worked to create unique recipes to provide an extensive array of items for customers to choose from. If you’re heading there for lunch or dinner, grab a tasty salad, a delicious entree such as the Wild Mushroom Ravioli or chicken tacos, or you could obviously go for the burger from their extensive list and pair it with a hand-spun shake. For brunch, choose from those delicious items we just mentioned or an omelette, benedict or hash.

Tuna Nachos

No meal at Heck’s is complete without one of their delicious signature cocktails. Some of our favorites: Hendrick’s & Hops Collins (Hendrick’s Gin, House Double IPA Syrup, Lemon Juice, Grapefruit Juice, Cucumber, Hopped Grapefruit Bitters, Soda); Rose Quartz (Tito’s Vodka, Pink Grapefruit, Creme de’ Pamplemousse Rose, Hopped Grapefruit Bitters, Pink Peppercorns, Pink Himalayan Salt); or Hot Pants (Altos Silver Tequila, Watermelon Shrub, Mint, Hellfire Bitters, Fresh Citrus Sour)

We got to sample some truly awesome items from their menu, and we could easily recommend all of them:

  • Tuna Nachos: wonton crisps, pickled jalapeno, sweet soy, wasabi aioli, sesame seeds, and tuna. I think this was our favorite item we tried. It was light, airy, and full of such amazing flavor.
  • Avon Burger Slider: balsamic candied onions, blue cheese, truffled potato sticks, baby arugula. This burger was mind blowingly delicious.
  • Plain Cheeseburger Slider: you can build it up however you want!
  • Calamari: with both spicy aioli and basil aioli. Light on the breading and perfectly crisp.
  • Salted Caramel Soft Pretzel Bread Pudding with creme anglaise and caramel sauce. Fun Fact: Broad HATES bread pudding. She’ll try it occasionally but never has found a good one…until now. This bread pudding was so different and it was the perfect balance of sweet and salty. We can’t wait to go back for more!
  • For drinks we got to try two seasonal cocktails: the Cranberry Sparkler which was made with vodka and house made cranberry syrup and the Hot Cider made with brandy, and Grand Marnier and house made cider. Both were so tasty and perfect for the cold weather.

Heck’s has three locations: Ohio City, Avon, and Heck’s Express downtown. Each restaurant offers a unique dining experience. The Ohio City location is in an 120 year old brick townhouse right in the heart of Ohio City. The Avon location is in a brand new building and it almost has an industrial feel. Heck’s Express is their new quick service concept for those in a hurry. You’ll enjoy the same food from Heck’s Cafe but in less time. Think: quick breakfast, sandwiches, fresh salads, pastries, and of course their signature coffee drinks.
