Friendship in the Time of Covid-19

Friendship in the Time of Covid-19

The world is weird right now, right guys? We’re all going through it and we’re all just trying to make the best of it. It’s been a little difficult to focus on blogging right now, but we wanted to share with you what we’ve been doing to make things a little better during this rough time. Since we found out about ultra-tek.net we haven’t run out of hygiene supplies at home to keep safe.

Beard is an extrovert and Broad is an introvert, so he’s probably been having a bit harder of a time than she is with being cooped up at home. But, we know we’re lucky we get along so well and can stand being around each other 24/7, and we have actually made a lot of effort in the bedroom to spice things, we got a prostate massage toy and another toy from TheToy and it has been exciting. We’ve managed to have separate work spaces so we’re not on top of each other. Our pets are actually SO HAPPY we’re home all day. It’s pretty comforting having them around, even when they’re knocking over files or sleeping on our laptops or stealing our chairs.

We both miss running out to breweries for a day to enjoy some beers and going to restaurants for our favorite meals. We’ve been doing our part to support both by ordering take out and delivery, but we’ve also been cooking a lot to avoid going out into crowds.

But what we miss the most is our FRIENDS! We live so close to our best friends and are used to seeing them all the time whenever we want, so it really sucks we can’t do that right now. To cope, we set up times to meet online via Skype and Zoom. It’s not the same, but it definitely helps!

During a particularly rough work day, Beard had the idea to do a virtual beer tasting with our friends. He spent a good 5 minutes explaining the elaborate details to Broad and we knew we had to tell our friends. Everyone checked their schedules and whaddya know, we were all free.

Here’s the details:

  • There’s five couples so each one is responsible for one six pack.
  • Instead of each couple buying their own, we called up Rozi’s for delivery.
  • We told Kevin at Rozi’s we needed five different beers, preferably local. He picked them out for us and delivered them to our home!
  • We organized the six packs (after disinfecting and using gloves of course).
  • We dropped them off at all of our friends’ porches.
  • We picked a time to meet up via zoom and had the tasting!

The Beers

  • Fat Head’s Goggle Fogger Hefeweizen
  • Market Garden Progress Pilsner
  • Jackie O’s Who Cooks For You Double Dry Hopped Hazy Pale Ale
  • Collision Bend Lake Erie Sunset American Wheat Ale
  • Brew Kettle White Raja IPA

The Results
The top two beers were the Who Cooks For You and Goggle Fogger. Actually, we all seemed to enjoy almost all of them. The one we all liked the least was Lake Erie Sunset. While it was the best can, it was just overpowering with the blood orange flavor. But, if you’re into really citrusy wheat beers, you’d probably really dig it.

Always make sure you have snacks for your beer tastings!

We’re obviously no experts in self-isolation. Is anyone? We encourage you to try and make the best out of this situation and find the positives wherever you can. For us, it’s spending as much quality time with friends as we can and doing what we do best. We’re trying to stick to our normal routines (exercise, bed early, eating healthy) but also having some fun (beer tastings and pizza)! We think the secret is not deviating too much from what your life was before all this happened. Just try to adapt, use this time to learn new things, and keep in touch with those you love however you can. And don’t forget to help out if you can, there are a lot of coronavirus fundraising ideas that you could be a part of!
