Broadway Booze

Last year we did a post about the Broadway in Cleveland series at Playhouse Square and how we prepare. We wanted to do a recap of this year’s party and what shows we’re seeing this year. It’s going to be an amazing season!

The Party
This year the party was at our house. When you host the party, you get to assign shows for each couple to present. Each couple presents the show and pairs it with a beer and cheese. We have gotten very creative each year and presentations have become quite elaborate. Whoever is hosting the party is usually accommodating if a couple wants a certain show (it happens every year). For our party, we gave everyone their shows in secret and told them they couldn’t tell each other what they had, for a reason we will get to later.

Beard and I like to go all out for parties. We recently acquired a whole bunch of serving dishes (thanks marriage) so we made a bunch of food to have in addition to the cheese. We made these amazing goat cheese stuffed artichoke bottoms which were kind of fancy but yet simple and delicious. We also tried out this new recipe for mini cheesy garlic bacon pull apart bread which would be delicious for any event. Broad of course made her famous buffalo chicken dip, we honestly can’t have a party without it. We bought an assortment of olives and our cheeses from the West Side Market. Beard also made delicious pork and veggie kabobs with a Cuban inspired marinade.

Per usual, everyone else got super creative with presentations. We had everything from mini Thanksgiving meals, mojitos, fireball, apple pie cider, ice cream and really the best assortment of cheeses. People stepped up their prop game too. It was quite the night!

The Shows
The 2017-2018 lineup is SO GOOD! Our group is ridiculously excited for this year.

  • Waitress: based on the 2007 film with the same name and music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles
  • On Your Feet: based on the life and music of Gloria & Emilio Estefan.
  • Love Never Dies: the sequel to The Phantom of the Opera
  • Rent: story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to create a life in NYC’s East Village.
  • The Humans: a play about family dynamics and tension set on Thanksgiving.
  • Aladdin: musical based on the Disney movie.
  • Hamilton: no words needed to describe this award-winning musical!

We hope you follow along with our Twitter and Instagram accounts as we attend all the shows! If you have thought about attending a show at Playhouse Square, do it! We love having the Broadway shows to look forward to. We even attend extra shows as well. We’ve seen plays, comedians and other entertaining acts at Playhouse. It’s fun to dress up, to meet for pre-show drinks and be culturally enlightened. It’s also amazing to be a part of such a fun, lively arts community. Check out Playhouse’s Event Calendar and find an event that interests you!
